About

Find out what makes us different from other boutiques.

We are a young contemporary clothing boutique for the girl with her own style.

We provide a hand-selected collection of merchandise to help you create a look that is uniquely you, whatever your style and budget may be! We are proud to provide a place where our customers can find affordable, American-made goods that are also not found in big box stores. We love being a boutique for local and regional designers and artisans from our community to sell their lines. We also support many local organizations and charities with various donations and partnerships throughout the year, including a working partnership with Community Integrated Services since 2013 providing workplace experience and internships for local handicapped high school students. We are proud to be a positive part of our community here in Swarthmore and make it part of our mission to strive to support our community and its members in as many different ways that we can. Together, we can do great things.

A childhood dream of owner, Emily Scott's, Compendium opened its doors in downtown Swarthmore, PA in August 2012. Located across the street from Swarthmore College and the Swarthmore train station, Compendium is conveniently located approximately a 25 minute drive south of Philadelphia and just over the Pennsylvania border from Delaware.

We work with a variety of small, independent, and American-made clothing, accessory, and gift designers; some are large enough to manufacture here, while others hand-make all their inventory. We are proud to work with indie designers and to offer our clients quality products they can't find anywhere else. While not everything we carry in store is made in the USA, the vast majority of it is and we make the conscious effort to carry American-made products whenever possible. Some of our designers choose to manufacture in China, but we do not work with designers who manufacture in Bangladesh, Cambodia, or Vietnam, as these locations tend to have the worst conditions for their workers. We carry a limited amount of stock for each style, so the style turnover is quick here, which means there are always lots of great new styles to check out each time you visit! We receive new arrivals weekly on Fridays. Stay up to date on these new arrivals by following us on Facebook.

Owner, Emily Scott, on opening day of the original location of Compendium boutique in Swarthmore, PA (August 18, 2012)

In July 2016, Compendium opened a second location in downtown Ocean City, NJ. This second location has a pop-up shop format and is located immediately to the left of the interior front doors of Stainton's Gallery of Shops on Asbury Avenue. Despite having a pop-up shop layout, the Compendium location in Ocean City is open 7 days a week, year round. Styles featured in this location focus on affordable, American-made beach and resort wear and are not available for purchase in the Swarthmore location or online. These styles can be purchased in person in Ocean City, as well as by calling Stainton's directly at 609-545-8688. Keep up to date with these Ocean City exclusive styles by following our OC Facebook page.
